I am currently using an Analog Dac with an Advanced power base and Renderer 2.0 module.i am extremely happy with the sound and have no real need to upgrade if good sense was the only prevailing factor! But alas! That is not so! I may have a chance to upgrade to a Discrete DAC with two power supplies PRO usb and renderer module installed. How much of an improvement would this be? Suggestions are welcome!
In my opinion, the Discrete is a noticeable upgrade over the Analog DAC (I have owned both the Platinum Signature DAC IV and the Analog DAC). I now own the Discrete with dual power supplies and V2 Renderer, and I’ve got the ProUSB/ISL module on loan from my dealer.
Of course, this hobby being what it is, I’m contemplating a Premier or pre-owned Reference…
Thanks fit your prompt reply! Now my appetite is truly whetted!
The Discrete is better, but what amp are you using? Is it a fully balanced amp? If not make sure you order the discrete with the rca output board.
It’s a fully balanced amp.Jeff Rowland 625SE
The Analog DAC is actually a single-ended design, so moving to the Discrete will bring even more benefits
@catastrofe has the way of it, it would be a big step up in performance. I would happily recommend it. We love supporting second hand sales, so don’t be shy looking at pre-owned products. Cheers!
Hi Daniel, what does single-ended design mean? I am using the Analog via a balanced output to my Krell preamp which I prefer to the preamp of the DAC and I love the sound! However a used Discrete is up for sale and I am sorely tempted!Truly love your product BTW, keep up the good work!
In all of our current DAC modules, there is a positive and negative converter in a truly balanced design. The Analog DAC does not have this feature, as it has a single converter per channel. Not to make it more technical, but the Discrete DAC will give you the fully balanced design through and through and perform better.
That being said, the Analog DAC is really awesome as well. That was my first product design, holds a special place for me!
Thanks!
