Serious Playback Issue – Renderer V2 / Qobuz Connect / Premier DAC

Hi MSB Support,

I experienced a very concerning issue with my system and wanted to ask for your advice.

System:

  • Premier DAC
  • Premier Power Base
  • Digital Director
  • Renderer V2
  • Connected directly to an MSB S500 power amplifier (no preamplifier)

I was listening via Qobuz Connect using the Renderer V2.

Before the incident, I noticed that the Premier remote control had an unusual lag. When I pressed the volume dial or menu button there was a noticeable delay before the DAC responded. This was not normal behavior.

While music was playing, I also adjusted the volume using the Qobuz app on mu phone(volume slide)

Shortly afterward, the system suddenly produced extremely loud digital/DC-like bursts or explosive pops through both speaker. This did not sound like a normal volume increase—it sounded like a serious digital fault or corruption. I quickly go to dac and tired to decrease volume but did not help

Because I was using ceramic drivers, I immediately switched off the S500 to protect the speakers.

I do not remember whether the music continued underneath the bursts because the event was quite shocking, and my priority was shutting the amplifier down immediately.

Afterwards, I read that some users have mentioned possible issues related to the optical control (TOSLINK) cables between MSB components. Since I had already noticed the remote control lag before the incident, I wondered whether this could indicate a communication or synchronization problem between the MSB modules.

Maybe qobuz volume slider was a to much data to process.

Could you please advise:

  1. Have you seen similar behavior before?
  2. Could this be related to the optical control cable or module communication?
  3. Are there any firmware updates or diagnostics you recommend?
  4. Is there anything I should check before using the system again?

I would appreciate your guidance, as I do not want to risk damaging my loudspeakers.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Ahmed Gencal

Can’t help with much of that, but “laggy” remote function can be low battery.

I hope you get things straightened out.

Thank you but i charged the remote .

I swiched off every cable and cleaned the toshlink cable and the other optical cable that is betweeb DD and dac.

I tried it with roon and it works as normal and playing as used to be but Remote anomaly still goes on. It some times works some times not.

In order to understand if this is a DD connection problem i took off all the modules and put them back to Premier dac like i never bought DD. That way i can understand if it is a connection problem with DD. Volume knob and all buttons on the dac works perfect again but Remote problem still goes on.

When using remote i looked thru iphone’s camera to understand if the ir blinks. Yes it does in every command.

So there are two questions

  1. What caused that explosive pop noises It seem it is a renderer V2 and qobuz connect issue. Maybe volume slider on the app sended too much info at the same time and buffer on dac or DD fulled and dc signal could not be muted( this idea may be sitty because of chat gpt :))
  2. What is the problem with the remote? I push the menu button ones it does not work on dac’s screen but next time or third time i push , it operates. Volume dial works like this as well

Please help :folded_hands:t2:

@agencal , let’s get you squared away. First, yikes! Second, thanks for the detailed description of what is happening. I think it would be great to get a direct tech support dialogue with Jonathan. I will message you his email so we can discuss the situation and understand what is happening in your specific setup. We could also move you on to the Renderer Beta so we can test solutions more quickly to what might be causing this problem. I’ll shoot you that message now.

Thank you Daniel
