Electrical tick/pop - Premier

When using my MSB Premier DAC + Digital Director + S500 via Roon, I consistently hear a short electrical tick/pop through the speakers when changing tracks. This happens regardless of resync delay settings or fixed output sample rates in Roon. Even, when I play music from my NAS over roon into the MSB, the issue does occur , which suggests the problem is related to how Roon streams and the MSB’s handling of those transitions. I have never experienced this behavior with other DACs (Mola Mola Tambaqui, CH C1.2) in the same system. Could you please confirm if this is expected behavior with the Premier stack, and whether a firmware update or input configuration (USB vs AES vs Renderer) can resolve it?

I have a Discrete DAC with a Render module being feed from a Roon core through my house network. I have never experienced anything like what you are hearing, so I would say not normal.

I have Premier stack with DD. I use a remote ROCK/NUC server - Renderer v2.

I don’t have any of those noises, so not normal.

As you get in contact with the MSB guys/gals, you could try

  1. reboot your network- router, switch, then NAS, and turn on DAC last

  2. reseat the renderer module

  3. be sure you are running the latest MSB firmware (DAC and DD)

  4. try a different computer to serve Roon (laptop, etc.)

  5. check to be sure some wayward device plugged into the circuit might be the problem

Those are long shots…

Thank you i tried all. But no change

I figured out that whenever any of 16-24 or 32bit recording comes after any of the other one that popping is happening and it makes me crazy :frowning:

I started to think for returning back

Do you have any of Roon’s DSP or volume control on? I suggest playing some of the MSB bit perfect test files to confirm.

No i don’t. I think it is about 16-24-32bits conversion problem.

I have the same issue with my Ref DAC+DD playing via JPLAY regardless of local files or streaming. I tried I2S / Pro-ISL and Renderer and each input has the same pop sound when changing tracks. I’m suspecting it’s the source issue but I can’t be so sure.

I have new firmware coming out for the Premier DAC hopefully this week that should help address this. I had one other person with this issue and as a beta tester they reported it fixed it. Once posted, I’ll let you know here.

It’s a tricky problem to solve because it seems to be variable and server-dependent. On my desk I had two computers running what should have been the same software, one did it (1 out of 15 times), the other did not.

As a quick test if you don’t mind. Can you go into the menu and set the digital filtering to “passthrough” to see if the ticks go away?

Thank you Jonathan.

When i select pass trough instead of filter in Digital Director problem is solved. But if it is gonna be off why do i have DD :))

100%, yes, you want the advanced filtering on. This is just a diagnostic test. This should be fixed in my next firmware release. I’m very confident that the new firmware will fix this for you.
