Error C Link on Premier DAC with DD

Dear MSB,

Prob Nothing to worry about, but after the latest sw-update (DAC to 28.14 and DD towards 20.11) every now and then there appears an Error C-link on the premier display. To give a little more background I’m connected via a Melco switch into the DD using a crystal RJ-45 Da Vinci Network Cable and from the DD to the PRO ISL Interface using a two meter AOC connection cable. Eventhough the system keeps playing beautiful and with much more 3D realism  :ok_hand:

Hello Eric,

The C-Link Error simply means too many of the commands from the DAC to the Digital Director are arriving with errors. This refers to the Toslink cable connection between the two units, which is used for control. Sometimes, just swapping the cable for another one solves it. Please note that this cable is ONLY used to send commands, so don’t waste any money on a high-quality audiophile one. In fact, the high-quality ones tend not to work as well. We use the TOSLINK connection for isolation, but it’s very sensitive to sending control data over it.

Personally, I’ve had great luck with the Amazon Basics branded Toslink cable on my desk.

The other solution, as odd as this sounds, is to do a slight modification to your current Toslink cable. What’s worked well for me is to unplug the cable and rub each end on a sheet of standard printer paper as if it were sandpaper. This tends to alter the end just enough to prevent the issue from arising.

Please note: After you change or modify the cable, you should perform a hard power restart on both the DAC and the Director. This will clear the error counter.

Hi Jonathan,

Big thanks for the swift response, appreciated.
I have been playing with cardas myrthlewood blocks recently, probably that caused the errors/ to many faults. Good to know which Solutions are available, gonna try the odd one first to see if that solves the case. If not I can always go for antoher one.

Will keep you posted.

Best regards and see you soon in vienna .

Hi Jonathan, today after receiving a new Error C Link message I’ve installed a new toslink cable as proposed, unfortunately within 15~20 min. the message was back…
I think we have to involve The dealership, agree? Best Regards, Eric

Hi Jonathan,

Just to keep you posted, The C Link error message keeps coming back.

Last saturday the new Toslink cable was uninstalled and each end was rubbed on a piece of standard paper. Then the cable was placed back vice versa and meanwhile both DAC and DD were completly powerless. Today after 4 days the message is back.

I’m in consultation with the dealer and probably gonna try another TosLink cable, but I’m not that convident the problem is to be found there. Meanwhile let me share the current TosLink specifications;

Hello @Eric1

Can you send me a private message and I’ll get the dealer involved. We can try a new control link module and a new cable from the factory if you would like.

Thanks,

Jonathan
