As I really want to stream Apple Music to my Discrete DAC, I’m considering an Eversolo streamer. However, as I don’t have the budget for an USB / I2S module, I’m thinking about making use of the embedded toslink input on Discrete DAC.
I realize that jitter is the main drawback of toslink… so I’m wondering whether any accessories can be used to minimize jitter in this case.
I can’t answer your question but I use the toslink from a blueound node and while the built in renderer is better, I can say the node sounds darn good too!
won’t the DAC’s clock handle this? ie, in the data stream is info about the sampling frequency, which the DAC’s clock ‘fixes’ or ‘sets’ accuracy…depending on accuracy of the clock…the Discrete’s clock is high end (though higher end DACs have higher ender clocks)
Actually, I did think DAC’s clock would reclock the incoming signal from toslink; but for many times, I heard people saying that toslink’s jitter bringing impact to sound quality… I am not sure anymore.
Toslink is the same SPDIF (Sony Phililips Digital Interface) as RCA coax. They both use the same SPDIF input receiver . It is a very special version in MSB DACs with excellent sound quality. It is significantly better than the common SPDIF chip used in the rest of the industry. The entire DAC uses the Femto clock including the inputs. I encourage you to use Toslink. Please report back how it sounds!
