About video mode on Premier dac

I read an interesting review for Premier dac on Alpha-Audio that praised the sound with Video mode on: ”But it doesn’t stop here. In fact, there are a few options for ‘tuning’ the MSB. These include a Video mode and there is still the new MSB Director. Video mode is a low-latency signal path that basically bypasses processing. But more is happening. In the measurements you can see that post- and pre-ringing is less in this mode ánd that the phase behavior is different. This is incredibly audible in both sound and rhythm.”

Is this common knowledge in forum or I have missed something? Anybody who agrees with the reviewer?

I use video mode for the express purpose of aligning the audio and video streams to align. I only use it for the TOSLink input from my TV. I really can’t stand non-aligned A/V presentation.

I’m not sure anyone “prefers” the video mode for strictly music listening. To me, it’s “sharper” and “edgier” than non-video mode. Ok for watching TV and movies.

I only listen to music and not video so I was a bit surprised over the reviewers claim about the sound in video mode!

Oh dear. No no no. Video mode should only be used for low quality inputs when needing low latency playback. It comes with many costs to the sound. This is not a way to tune the Premier. It seems this reviewer was trying to “measure” the performance and was missing the bigger picture. You are definitely not missing out on anything @Alf .

Thank you Daniel for clarifying the main purpose with video mode! But i must admit that I was really puzzled over the reviewers enthusiasm for video mode. He ends the review with this:
”In fact, video mode transforms this dac into a rhythmic-sounding converter with sharp placement. The mids and highs get a little more energy. That has to be your taste. Fortunately, it can simply be turned on or off.”

Amazing!
