Almost there, the old system will go to my office or possibly the bedroom as my office might be too small to do the 805’s justice but the new system is almost ready.
I still have to decide on the subs and adjust them, I need to sort out the Cascade volume matching issue, the clicking aspects, raise the rack 1".
Then the debate on upgrading to dragon speaker cables and what do I do for the Spotify Streamer
Very nice looking setup! Once the B&W are gone I think those silver Estelon’s will blend into the room decor splendidly.
I’m using Dragon Zeros to connect my M500s to my Magico M6’s. I wish I could give you an A/B test result, but I set them up that way from day one and they work great.
Agree, I have to work a bit more on the roomba guards I tried wrapping a strip of glad ceran wrap and it’s good but not perfect, soo i will have to spend more time with them. Jamie from The Audio Experience in Chicago was great to work with and we custom designed the rack, Vince helped with the dimensions and cooling aspects.
But the result is a system with stunning looks and amazing sound
If you can program a “keep out” zone in your roomba app for the speakers, that works well. It is what I have done with my robot vac, because no way i want any wear marks
It would be a shame to tarnish the look you achieved with ceran wrap hehehe
I think I would not want to put any kind of sticky tape on that finish… almost for sure over time it will discolor it. I wouldn’t even trust a glueless product like Saran Wrap.
I would just add attach little bumpers to the floor with good two sided tape ( not the 3M stuff for home paper projects) around the base of the speaker. They could be fancy and go around the speaker like a fence, Or just few blocks, like bollards in a parking lot. Just an inch high would probably be enough. The could even Lucite blocks, or wood painted to match the floor or speakers. It doesn’t take much to make the robot go away.
Something that would involve a little more effort but produce a very high end finish and good protection would be to vinyl wrap the bottoms of the speakers like the PPF (paint protection film) that they apply to vehicles to protect against rock chips and scratches. it comes in different finishes like gloss, semi gloss and matte and when applied properly, its nearly invisible.
I had my van/RV done professionally and the clear section I put along the top edge to help protect the roofline from the light rub of the awning when it is being extended/retracted was only $80. A house call for the service might be a little more expensive and a little tricky to source depending on the area, but I know the guy I used here in Santa Cruz loves custom projects so it is possible to find interested service providers.
Taped and I am very happy with the outcome, yes @Dan there is a risk but much better than a bunch of scuff marks or chips. @Kevin_Turnquist 25mm thick strip so from a distance it’s not noticeable at all
The subs are staying, and they are mostly dialed in. The result is pretty close to amazing. As a friend who was over this weekend said after she listened simply superb. I worked in my office a touch after and the B&W 805 D4’s with REL Tx7’s are soo outclassed they are not even in the same competition.
I moved them out an extra 10cm from their original placement (now close to 30 from the wall), I need to update the pictures. 30-50 tighter base (I think the port stops being impacted as much) 50-90 improvement in the mids and upper range, I found 83 (and also 60 cm wider) was ideal, the base was tight the mids were airier the top even more pinpoint accurate. The sound scape was bigger and even more present, BUT at that time the speakers
become the focal point of the living and dining rooms
completely change the flow of the living room
block the natural walking path
narrow down the stairway to much
start blocking the door to the garden
So the compromise will be 30-45cm, I am traveling this week so more playing next, but yes it is a fantastic system and if anyone is every in my area, you are welcome for wine/cheese and playing some great music on a truly fantastic system.
