Introducing The Sentinel DAC

John,

Here are the updates:

https://forum.msbtechnology.com/t/the-sentinel-dac-state-of-production

I actually got sick and then was out for a rather sever sinus surgery, so it caught me a bit off guard before I could post it. On the road to recovery and able to focus enough to get back on the computer. Fingers crossed I will be able to scuba dive again with my super human sinuses

No joking aloud about diving! Music and diving are my passions

I am so excited to get diving again @Peter.Bomberg , we have some of the most interesting marine areas in the Monterey bay for diving. A bit cold, but the wildlife is unbeatable. @Jonathan_Gullman is much more experienced than I am and he just put together a new dive kit for the local area. Would love to hear what kind and where you dive?

I like the Monterey area but as I have gotten older I restrict my diving to warm water and if you like Monterrey you should try northern BC or the St Lawrence near Cap-de-la-Table or even further north in my youth I loved the colours diving in northern Iceland but as I said those days are long gone, we are heading to the Philippines in Feb for 6 weeks of diving (Tubbataha Reef, Malapascua, Dumaguete, etc.)

I am also only diving recreationally now, it’s funny how life changes over time.

One step closer

@Peter.Bomberg I don’t know how I didn’t respond to this earlier!

Diving in the Philippines is epic. Sadly, I only had 1 day to dive there, but I would go back tomorrow to do some more.

My last dive in Monterey Bay was the best diving in the bay I’ve experienced. Visibility was great at about 35 feet, and due to recent ocean/storm changes, the water was filled with something called Salps. It was like diving in an aquarium! I’m trying to get a dive case for my camera, and I’m sure I’ll share some pictures here

Hi Dustin,

What are the sonic implications of pairing the Sentinel DAC with an amplifier which has an unusually high input impedance such as 4.4MĪ©, resulting in very little current flowing across the XLR signal cables into the amp?

Please help expand on why a ā€œmatched impedanceā€ input resistance of say 75Ī© , 300Ī© or 1.2kĪ© is sonically more desirable.

What misunderstandings (if any) might there be in the following video regarding maximizing voltage transmission vs. maximizing current (power) transmission? And for that matter, what are the misunderstandings of the audio industry in recommending a ā€œ10x or higherā€ input impedance (relative to the source component’s output impedance)?

Is transmission line theory (typically for transmission of MHz-range RF) relevant for audio frequencies of 5Hz - 25kHz?

Thank you!

Dear Jonathan, did there had any update of new DC cable of clock module?and could you kindly show the the final Sentinel DAC picture?look forward of it.

I just finished preparing the shipping crate designs for the Sentinel DAC. This will be machined at my home woodshop from Baltic Birch Plywood. Now that our production of the first Sentinel DAC’s is nearly here, it is time to finalize shipping/unboxing experience. I am so anxious to start shipping, but ensuring every detail is perfect comes first. No compromises allowed

I will have a production update coming in the next week or two. Finished metal is arriving back from the anodizer tomorrow so assembly can begin!

Looking forward to the new thread, and the discussions! :hugs:

New ā€œDark Copperā€ PVD finish just came in for the Sentinel DAC. More bronze than orange, very high end accent color. Excited to see this on the DAC!
