I2S input: problem with 705/768 frequency

I have: Reference + DD and Renderer and I2s inputs, Antipodes K50 streamer. Reading about many people here on the Forum who appreciate PGGB files, I installed the program to do some tests. A problem emerged: the oversampled files at 706/768 all sound distorted on I2S and perfect on Renderer. Even with Roon’s oversampling it’s the same: if I send it to the Renderer sound OK, if I send it to I2S it distorts sound… so it’s not a problem of PGGB (which I didn’t like anyway!!) …

Since the Renderer is connected to the Antipodes server and I2S is connected to the digital outputs of the Antipodes Player, could it be a technical limitation of the K50’s digital outputs?

Any ideas? Grazie

Hello @Francesco ,

The Antipodes doesn’t support 705/768kHz via the I2S. It just sends out distorted noise. This is not an issue with the DAC or the I2S input, but instead a limitation of the I2S output of the K50.

Thanks Jonathan, is this a limitation on all digital outputs of Antipodes? For example it wouldn’t even work on USB (which I don’t have…)?

The USB should work great. We don’t support 768kHz via the XLR or Coaxial so I wouldn’t know if those outputs work at these rates.

I’ll ask Luca Righetti if he has a USB input to try and I’ll let you know. Thank you

Mark from Antipodes confirmed to me that with USB it should work correctly up to 768: the limitation to 384 only applies to the I2S output. I have already agreed with Luca on a test with USB.

Which is only the curiosity to understand… I’m doing some tests with PGGB… but the files at 768 become “huge”… and I don’t like the first tests made with PGGB at 384 !! I prefer files in native format

I’m a strong advocate of just keep the files native! It’s our strong preference as well.

I am using an N50 with the MSB optical output into a cascade DAC. I too have distortion at up sampling to 768. Why is this?

To clarify, this is the pro ISL output and input from the N50 to the Cascade.

I’ll PM you my email. Can you send me a video with the distortion?
