Has anyone used an active bass trap - as alternative to passive bass traps?
I am in the early stages of experimenting with the PSI Audio C214s (and negotiating with my wife over yet more devices), but await the arrival of my Cascade before I commit. In my room in my system I could hear a subtle but non-trivial cleaning up of the sound — oddly enough most obviously in the midrange. However, it was also clear that a considerable amount of experimentation with placement was needed to maximise the effect — leading to extensive negotiations with the dealer to lend them for the time it takes, and with my wife, for placements acceptable to her. I’ll have another go at the conundrum in late September, and post then.
I have used a pair of PSI Audio AVAA C20 active bass traps in my dedicated listening room for the past 7 years, i.e., since it was built. They are expensive but effective and far more attractive than the alternative (huge built-in broadband bass absorption).
Thanks. Have you measured the before/after - the measurement tools are really good. It gives you an excellent understanding of the issues - basically spikes and dips - and delay issues with bass response.
