Taiko Extreme Server - > MSB Cascade → VAC Master Pre → VAC Statement 452 IQ Musicblocs - > Borresen M2 speakers.
Hi Adam,
Nice room… I really like the BAD (Binary Amplitude Diffuser) on the floor! That’s a cool idea…

Thanks Dan -
What a cozy listening room with a view! You have some fabulous gear. I’m very much a VAC fan. Curious how you like the Taiko Streamer and if you had any others in your system? In my system I actually found the streamer quality made very little difference in SQ into the Cascade. I attribute this to the effectiveness of the MSB DD. I went from Innuos Zenith Mk 3 to Zenith NG. Did not get the bump in performance that I expected.
So . . . here’s the thing. We are all heavily influenced by marketing - suggestion and confirmation bias effects and particularly in audio equipment! I’ve not A/B’d the Taiko Extreme Server - I was using it with the Lampizator Horizon 360 DAC that required an external server. I’d say that there are several “questionable” audio equipment categories here - including, obviously, audio and power cables. Does any of this matter - I’d say maybe. You get a lot of - it depends on your system- and there’s a “synergy” component to it as well. We collectively (me included) spend a lot of money of stuff that either (a) has minimal or (b) no effect on SQ. Would I have bought the Taiko with the Cascade - I’d say no. Does it do anything in my system - I’d say probably not.
The big hitter for me at the moment is tube rolling the VAC amps and room acoustics. I hired a acoustitian who is going to come in - do measurements - and then “tune” the room to try to tame my bass decay - overhang issues. I also purchased 4 PSI active bass traps. I’m shocked by how few people really work on room acoustics - and spend $500K on a system. The fancy hifi audio stores don’t pay any attention to this topic at all. In my experience - zero!
Totally agree with your comments/observations. This is an interesting hobby where inefficient markets rule the day! Please keep me posted on the results of your room acoustics. I’m thinking of having a “professional” come in to setup my Alexx V’s. As far as I know my room acoustics are ok but I don’t have the experience to judge. I have no slap echo and the back wall is 60 foot from speakers this no standing waves. Again your system looks wonderful.
Thanks for sharing and congrats for you room.
Can’t see the active bass traps in your pics, I suppose they are the c214… my question is: are they really effective in your experience?
I am also looking forward to hearing your experience with these. Considering for myself. Have they not arrived yet?
In transit to my house.
Congratulations! Very nice system! Enjoy the music in good health!
Thanks!!
PSI Audio AVAA is a mindblowing product !
