@matthewk wait does this mean you can replace the cable on the Pro/USB with a AOC as well?
Yes, you can use an AOC cable on ProUSB and it makes a noticeable difference.
Dan
Ahh, @Dan such is life but if I would have known this before I pulled dual fiber connections it would have been easier, now i both have to pull back the 3 month old runs and run new ones.
But if the result is a noticeable improvement a small amount of $ and time is a no brainer.
And to rub a little salt in the wound
The holes you made for the fiber itself may be too small to fit the permanent SFP on the end of the AOC cable ![]()
@Dan the good news is they are running in a 4â conduit so that isnât an issue but they might be a pain to remove as i have a bunch of other cable including Dragon Zeroâs in the same conduit.
Ohh there are also twists and turns and a couple 90 degree ones but its all about the music

I have received the recommended fiber few days ago and swapped it today between the DD and the DAC on my Cascade.
Just one hour later, on my system :
The improvement is simply MASSIVE.
The soundstage is now so huge on the the tri amplified active speakers.
The noise level which was incredibly low is now inexistent. The level of silence cannot be lower.
The music is holographic filling the entire room in 3D.
The stereo system renders like if it were a multichannel one.
Impacts were sharp but became instantaneous.
The bass extends to unheard levels.
Timbres are much more defined like crystal.
Plenty of respiration around the music notes.
It has transcended the Cascade.
My jaws dropped. Never ever heard a sound like that. I have no words for the infinite level of improvements this set of SFP modules + fiber, brought to the Cascade.
In summary : Fantastic and big thank you / Merci to MSB for suggesting this swap.
To those who still hesitate, please go and proceed with this change without any question.

Love to hear it @Abascal , enjoy!
Another happy swapper
better imaging and dynamics.
And my wife now has a colour picture of 2 speakers in our living room so I suspect we are getting closer to another upgrade.
Consigliatissimo!!
highly recommended
Mine will be here tomorrow. Also between my Ref DD and my Reference DAC. I figure It canât hurt, and the âupgradeâ price is minimal.
Hmmmmm⌠âMassiveâ..?
I am guessing youâll also find the cost to benefit value is in fact massive. ![]()
Although my system is less revealing than some here, replacing the fiber connection between Digital Director and Premier DAC with a 2m AOC cable did provide a tad more sound stage, in my opinion. Massive? No. But as mentioned above, a worthy $50 upgrade (shipping+tax).
Just received my 2 AOC cables.
Connected first the USB Pro/ISL unit to the DD, 1 meter long. Am listening right now and the difference is clearly audible. Clearer, more realistic voices. A little bit more spaciousness and transparency. Considering the cost a significant improvement (in this crazy expensive audio world).
Next step will be the DD to DAC connection via the other AOC cable, 5 meter long.
Thanks for this tip, much appreciated indeed!
Alright, alright! I swapped the cable between the DD and the Reference DACâŚ.. and yes.. i definitely hear a pretty impressive improvement in coherence (vocals) , a widening of the soundstage and an increase in bass.
I just ordered a second cable to go between the Pro ISL and the DDâŚ
im going to go eat my hat nowâŚ..
Hehehe, very fun to hear everyoneâs journey with this!
You bet @luca.pelliccioli !
In this industry, perhaps the best cost to performance upgrade anywhere ![]()
Just installed the second fiber cable between the ProISL and the DAC, and there seems to be an added benefit to this as well. Mostly in the bass impact and fullness. For a total 100 bucks Iâd say this upgrade is a no-brainer. Itâs very similar to going with a higher-grade interconnect or speaker cable.
Yesterday I received the AOC cables and replaced the DD to DAC cable. I couldnât replace the PRO USB to DD cable because the PRO USB SFP module does not come out, or at least I couldnât draw it out. I donât know if it has to be forced out? I was afraid to put more force than it was necessary for the DD to DAC modules. I really didnât perceived any difference with the OAC cables. I made a couple of cable changes and didnât continue because of the dangers with it. Is the SFP module in the PRO USB fixed or can it be removed.
All of the SFP modules should be removable. If yours is having issues coming out, please send pictures of the connector and the release tab and maybe we can see something. You can message both @Daniel_Francis and I.
