Hi guys, how are the XLR pins on the select? I have to connect them to my new Soulution which has these XLR inputs - pin-out: pin1 = ground
pin2 = non-inverting input
pin3 = inverting input
All MSB DACs match that XLR pinout.
Pin 1 = Shield Ground
Pin 2 = normal phase
Pin 3 = inverted phase
If you use the phase invert (circle with diagonal line through it) then the phase is reversed.
Thanks, meanwhile, setting the 727 preamp to Inverted sounds better.
This determines whether the output signal
for input IN 2 is in phase or inverted.
I find that every song will sound better if you can find the correct phase for it. I find about a 50% split across all music genres. Even on the same album some songs may be recorded normal phase and others reverse phase. What irritates me most is when the vocalist is recorded in reverse phase from the rest of the instruments.
I would say even over 50%. I start my listening by inverting the phase from the Select remote control. Did you know that with almost all players, if you quickly stop and play, the phase is inverted? Luckily, I’ve gotten used to it and I immediately notice that the recording is inverted. I think we need to make a distinction between recording phase and balanced circuit phase. When I had the Reference paired with the Burmester pre and power amp, I kept the speaker cables inverted. Now, my Soulution 727 pre allows you to invert the pins from the remote control between inverting and non-inverting, for each input. And although MSB and Soulution declare pin 2 to be non-inverting, it sounds better if I invert the pin from the remote control. While from the Zanden 1200 Phono pre, it sounds better by setting the corresponding input to Phase. No big deal, in the end, it’s the ear that counts. Happy listening everyone.
