Renderer Update: Qobuz Connect is here and it's fantastic!

@matthewk not alone in your observation. The difference isn’t noticable on all tracks and it’s almost non existent at CD quality (IMHO) but the better the recording and the higher the resolution the more pronounced it is.

I almost never use Roon since the connect was supported but I’m dying to try Tidal on my Renderer as the recommendation engine is better. Now Spotify connect with 24/192 would be heaven

@Daniel_Francis can I pre-order the v3.

Hahahaha, you will literally be the first person to know Peter. Consider yourself an early beta tester when/if we start development

Good idea

Hello! I’d like to be in line after Peter.

Does beta testing include requirement definition, if so I can start as soon as I go on vacation (only time I seem to have time is on longhaul flights)

Specifically regarding differences between servers and Qobuz direct, make sure to use your remote to toggle the phase invert when comparing different sources, servers, or streamers. Be sure to do this while listening to the same song on Qobuz.

We recommend this because we’ve found that some servers actually invert the phase. If one device inverts the phase and another doesn’t, it could easily explain the audio differences you are hearing. If you toggle the phase and still notice the same differences, you will know for certain which playback method is better. Knowing which one is “correct” is difficult as many albums are reversed phase.

Also, our code updates (and I think bit-perfect tests) will work perfectly even if the phase is inverted.

The Sentinel DAC has given us the ability to notice absolute phase very easily. This could explain some differences.

If you are serious, I would love to sign you up for our beta testing program. Confirm and I will get you onboard.

@Peter.Bomberg , same goes for you, happy to put you on our beta testing firmware. All updates will be tested by us before it rolls out, but new features will come to you first by weeks/months depending on the rollout.

If anyone else is interested, let us know.

Oh it’s VERY different… Food for thought, uh?

@Daniel_Francis it would be an honor to contribute to make the products from a company I trust better. But even more to assist people whos’ courage, vision and attitude I admire would bring me joy.

Hi Daniel, I am new to MSB. Just ordered a Premier with USBpro/ISL. I am mostly a Tidal user. For the renderer, is the V2 going to able to do Tidal direct in the future updates, or that is only planned for the V3?

That would be the decision point for me to add a Renderer.

We are absolutely planning to add Tidal Direct, but have not been successful getting support from Tidal. They seem uninterested in working with smaller manufacturers. That being said, we will keep trying and if possible, it will be added to the V2 version of the renderer.

That being said, if anyone has an “inside” connection to Tidal and can get us a contact to work with, we would appreciate it! It could help us get this implemented sooner.

PS, congrats on the Premier DAC!

I stupidly sold my Renderer V2 module when I bought my Antipodes K50 1,5 year ago. Luckilly I found a second hand one in the Netherlands (from another MSB freak, Erik, whom I can thank heartfully).
The K50 is co figures in Roon server + Squeeze Player.

I am just testing Qobuz Connect on the Renderer V2 which automatically upgraded to 3.0.3. (@ MSB : great job !). Super sound quality.

Now the question : is there a way to still use Roon (lifetime subscription) for the navigation part and Qobuz Connect for the player part ? Qobuz Connnect is a player isn’t it ? Like Squeeze on the K50 ?
I guess that I’ll have to add a server function (on a computer or a NAS ?)
Or is it not possible ?

Thanks Daniel. Will be looking forward to a Tidal direct update.

Unfortunantely I do not have a connection in Tidal. I hope someone here will be able to help.

To my understanding, using „Connect" services (Qobuz Connect, Tidal Connect, etc.) means the music stream travels directly from the (Qobuz) cloud to the Qobuz Connect enabled endpoint, i.e. your Network Renderer V2 in this case. It does not pass through your server, other than when you use Qobuz inside Roon, where it is pulled from the Qobuz cloud to your server, you can apply MUSE DSP etc. and it is then either leaving your server via its digital wired connection (USB, or whatever you use with your K50), or you might stream it via Roon RAAT to the Renderer V2.

For Qobuz Connect, however, the Qobuz Apps on either computer or smartphone just act as remotes, triggering that „pull" to the cloud. So it would require some sort of „remote" functionality within Roon to let Roon initiate this Qobuz Connect pull from the cloud to the Renderer V2. I don’t know whether this is at all possible, but it would certainly require a feature request to both Roon and Qobuz.

The short answer is no. You will need to use either one at a time. You will still also need a server for local playback as well. These really are two separate methods of playback.

And @itoakio 's description is correct.

Thnx!!
