hello all… While my Cacscade continues to break in nicely, I am looking to replace/upgrade the power cable for the Director. I’ve been using the bundled $5 cable so far. My entire system is using Shunyata Sigma V2 cabling otherwise. My big question is, how nuts do I need to go with the power cable for the Director? Logic would dictate that I should get a Shunyata Sigma V2 NR power cable to match what I have on the Cascade Powerbase and also keep the synergy with the rest of my system. However, is that really needed? I’d hate to waste another $3500 if not entirely needed/useful for the Director. Looking for guidance on this forum. Thanks in advance!

I can’t speak to the rest of your system (ie synergy with the Shunyata Sigma V2 NR), but in my case there was an improvement with the AQ Dragon cabling. My view is the system has gone from playing music to showcasing music. It’s hard for me to explain but as the system breaks in and I tweak almost everything,
The system I auditioned sounded wonderful but now the music flows, the canvas is larger than the space between the speakers and it’s simply more lifelike and the alive.
Which also explains why I am upgrading the speaker cables and the last interconnects, sure the system will exceed my planned budget by an order of magnitude but the AQ Dragon series combined with the MSB Cascade/M205’s and the Estelon X Diamond MkII just sounds so musical to me that it justifies every penny.
In terms of power cable on their own, my observation was increased dynamic range, but I switched both Cascade cables at once so I can’t say what was Director vs Power.

If it is not in the budget, the DD is probably the most resilient component in the system to power. I am sure it will be just fine with a more friendly priced cable. But, if it will nag at your mind every time you listen… than that becomes its own justification.

Thanks @Daniel_Gullman… I have decided to stay within my cable family and will buy another Shunyata Sigma PC for the Director. As you said, I’ll have the peace of mind knowing I am not compromising its performance on the power front.
Thanks @Peter.Bomberg. I wholeheartedly agree that good cables have a profound impact on the sound - both technically and musically. I auditioned several brands before choosing Shunyata Sigmas for my entire system. Never tried the AQ Dragon series, but I have heard many good things about it. So many great cables to choose from… hard to try every one! My question was specifically about the PC needs for the Director, that objectively speaking, what gains - technically and/or musically - I could expect with a better cable for it. For sure when I did A/B testing with various cables for the Power Base, the difference was clear and immediate. But not so with the Director.

@haragr, if you happen to be near Ottawa I will have a 1M Dragon that is easy to remove, which you could borrow for a while (I am upgrading the power to my REL subs)
