Cascade location in room

I have an idea for setting up Cascade that I am pretty sure would work, but I would like some feedback on what could possibly go wrong.

What I want to do is put the Director on a side table, next to my listening chair, 10 feet (3 meters) or so from the cabinet where all the HIFI equipment, including the Cascade Analog and Power chassis are. The director has all the controls I need on its top.

I use ProISL/USB for my digital input, so the only things coming out the back of the director are the power cord, a fiber to the Analog chassis, and a fiber going to the Nucleus. The fiber cables might end up being 30 feet (10 meters) long or more (depending on how they are run), which shouldn’t be a problem.

I think that this would be a very cool arrangement.

The fly in the ointment is that if I orient the director so the so that the display faces the chair, the back of the director shows. Like any piece of HIFI gear, the back is a bit ugly, at least compared to the front, and needs to be hidden. I can take care of that by making a freestanding shell that hides the back and dresses all the cables to the back of the side table.

Or maybe @Daniel_Gullman could spin up a matching shell, for just this purpose, on one of his NC machines :grinning: .

Comments?

Thanks,
Dan

What’s the goal?

I had a similar idea (Reference DD in my case, if I can purchase one soon). My goal is reducing the gear on the front wall as much as possible: low rack with amp and DAC only. I have the sources and network stuff on the side wall. Sonically speaking it should bring better results than having a bigger rack full of components and cables between/behind the speakers.

The remote is very well built and very convenient

Everyone has their own aesthetic goals but I would not expect MSB to custom make a new shell, as it would be much more complicated than it seems.

My friendly advice is to just use the balanced outputs from the DAC and move everything to the side

The only thing you want close to the speakers is the power amp, with short speaker runs.

Couldn’t agree more, in general. I only added the DAC to the front wall (extremely low) rack when I heard the sound of the insanely expensive STEALTH Sakra XLRs connected to my S202. Once I get the DD, I’ll have to decide where to put it…

@Dan , that setup sounds viable by all counts. In regards to a custom shell, probably not at this time  I have my hands full with the Sentinel DAC!

It was absolutely our intentions for the Cascade to be split up in the system. Leaving the Analog Converter and Powerbase front and center and moving the Director to the side is an optimal setup. I think we expected that to be on a rack against the wall so cables wouldn’t be an issue.

Have your M500’s arrived?

Hi @Daniel_Gullman

I do like the flexibility in the director.

The M500s have not arrived, Have the been shipped? Freight or UPS/Fedex?

My M6s are supposed to be here Thursday.

Dan

Ahh! Sorry, looks like they are shipping today. I was hoping they got picked up on Thursday and were travelling over the long weekend. Should be coming FedEx freight.

Great News!

Thanks
Dan
