MSB Premier DAC not working with 48k Sample Rate Family at DSD512

Hi guys,

Posting an issue which I hope can be resolved with a firmware update.

Issue:

  • MSB Premier DAC not working with 48k Sample Rate Family when audio is upsampled to DSD512
  • When any music at 48/96/192 sample rates are upsampled to DSD512 (at native 48k family rate) and played on the DAC, there is only digital noises and artifacts
  • For example, when 44.1/88.2/176 audio is upsampled to 22.5Mhz (DSD512) everything works great. But when 48k content is upsampled to 24Mhz, I get just noises and artifacts

Hardware:

  • MSB Premier DAC with PRO ISL with latest firmware

Software:

  • HQPlayer Desktop 5 latest version

What input are you using?

I’m using Pro ISL to the DAC.

Hi Bahrin, where are you located? It might be a calibration issue from your clock so it would be best to contact your local dealer where you bought it from.

I’m based in Singapore.

I know the local dealer pretty well. They told me to get in touch with MSB directly.

DSD is based on a 44.1k clock domain. By changing the clock domain in the 48kHz family you are making a new non-standard DSD format. This format is currently not supported.

Personally I have found native to always sound better than any upsampling. Converting it to DSD would be worse than leaving PCM as PCM. If you must upsample, try different PCM rates (like 24/384kHz), I think you will find it better than converting to DSD. Higher is not always better.

Hi fbahrin,

I was working on this a few month ago and I have managed to get 48K base sample files upsampled to DSD512 and playing on my Reference DAC.

Set Bit Rate (/ Limit) = 44.1k x512 in your HQPLayer settings-> Output.

If you are upsampling your files using PGGB, you set Output Rate Family =“Always Output 44.1KHz Rates”

I am staying in Singapore too and you can contact me at audio@singnet.com.sg if you need help.
