Luca! Welcome!

You bet, looking forward to lunch!

I am still working on securing you a refurbished DD, but I am not sure how the symmetry will work… This is a truly excellent presentation you have created, I can only imagine it also sounds the part.

Thanks, Daniel. Don’t worry, I’m planning to place the DD on the side wall rack.

I moved the DAC to the front wall in order to have a short interconnects run because I bought a new pair of XLR STEALTH Sakra V17 LE, that I strongly recommend you to try.

Thanks, @Daniel_Gullman! The DD is finally here…

My plan is to keep it for a while on the front wall, plugged into the Gryphon PowerZone together with the DAC and the S202. Then I’ll try it plugged directly into a wall socket, to find out if it works better.

If so, I’ll move it on the side wall together with the Innuos server.

I’ve also ordered to “the other Luca” a new I2S module today.

The only negative thing I noticed, Daniel… is that sadly the DD chassis seems to have a slightly different finishing compared to my 1 y/o Reference DAC and PowerBase, the color and touching the surface is less matte or more glossy. It’s pretty evident. I didn’t expect that. Is it a different paintings/treatment or the “aging”? I was thinking that the refurbishment process included also the chassis cosmetic.

Hi Luca,

The “Film Noir” theme really looks great!

I think a 70th Anniversary Stern Godzilla pinball game would complete the theme :t_rex:

Ah ah ah Dan, thank you!

Huzzah, congrats @luca.pelliccioli . Looking forward to hearing your findings.

Sorry the refurbished unit did not include a new chassis. In regards to the finish, we did not change the process in that time frame, but it is very difficult to match product that has been in the field. The black finish does age slightly over time, especially if exposed to the sun. We have adopted a new finish for the Cascade DAC called “Optical Black” that should withstand the test of time better. This new finish using the dyes used in exterior aluminum framing for doors and windows. Perhaps the mismatch will be alleviated if the DD moves to the sidewall of the room?

Thanks, Daniel.

Just out of the box the DD is bringing an incredible calm, the music flows filling the room with ease and a sense of control and relaxation able to let you feel better the engagement, the being-there effect and a profound pleasure. Great improvement, congrats.

As for the placement, let me become more familiar with the new sound before trying to plug the DD into a different circuit. Once determined what I like more I can take my final decision.

That’s the plan but I was told that you are testing which 8 meter long toslink cable (the length required in my room) can perfectly work at that distance. I thought there were no issues with long runs - as well as fiber ISL - being the toslink connection from DD to DAC just intended to “control” purposes like volume/menu settings.
Thanks for helping me MSB staff!

Sound-wise, since I introduced the DD the results are quite remarkable and seem to be improving day by day. I guess a refurbished unit doesn’t need any break-in time, right?
