I figured they were the ML speakers and they are very well respected. I’ve never heard that model before, but I’ve read good things about them. Most music lives in the midrange, so that frequency range is important to me as well.
I listen to, maybe, 95% traditional jazz and the Discrete is perfect for this kind of music. Very resolving, but still delivers a lush and full sound to brass instruments and shimmering ride cymbals!! When I got this room setup last year, I had Wilson Audio Sabrina X speakers. Family and friends came over for a listening session after I got the system dialed in and everybody was blown away. I ended up trading the Sabrina X for the Sasha V’s because it was a deal I couldn’t refuse. I’m done buying stuff as this is the biggest upgrade I have ever made. If I hit the Lotto I will be buying the Cascade though!
I don’t recommend trying to keep up with the latest Hifi gear because you’ll save money enjoying what you have! Lol!!!
Hi @Daniel_Francis and @Jonathan_Gullman. I’ve not yet done extensive listening with the new 28.14 update for the Discrete DAC, but so far it’s fixed the “- - k” issue for me when playing tracks. As I said, I’ve only played ~10 tracks today, and have only used one source so far after the update, but in all cases the correct sample rate popped up immediately.
One question: as I went into the menu after the update, just to confirm that I’m effectively running the 28.14 OS, I cycled through the menu settings. I was surprised that the Renderer power setting (Rend Power: choice of always on or auto off) seems to have disappeared from my menu options. https://msbtechnology.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/The-Discrete-DAC-User-Guide-REV-4_1.pdf I seem to remember it was defaulted to ‘auto off’ as a feature to eliminate any potential noise from the Renderer when playing other sources. Was that removed in either the 28.14 update or the recent Renderer auto-update? Or should I be powering down/up the DAC to reset? Not a big deal, but I’m curious.
PS - like many others, I, too, am also very pleased and impressed with the Qobuz Connect upgrade to the Renderer. It’s working great for me.
Yes, the auto-power off was removed. It was causing problems for some users as they didn’t have networks that worked the same as everyone else. This isn’t an issue with your DAC.
