Control S500 / Digital Director with IR control

Currently I’m using IR control dongle/app to control the whole system: Ref DAC (master)+DD (slave) +S500 (slave) all connected with 12v trigger. After taking some advices from audiophile friends I decided to keep the DAC (or even DD) 24/7 on.

So is there any way to control the S500 via IR as well? if that’s not possible I can also link S500 to DD and control these two equipments via IR but there’s no controller included in the DD so the mapping to the IR dongle is not possible? I read the manual of the DD and it states it has “IR remote control”.

The reason behind this is that I want to warm up the S500 after work so it would be ready when I arrive home (around 30 mins time). The IR dongle can be operated by an iPhone app.

Thanks in advance!

After some experiments I found the solution for now. Simply disconnect the 12v trigger of Powerbase (master) and DD (1st slave) and keep the 12v trigger of DD and S500 (2nd slave);

Set the powerbase in “link”, which will keep the DAC always on until the toggle is set back to “normal”

Then set the DD in “normal” that will allow it to accept the IR control from the MSB remote so it can power up both DD / S500 whenever I want.

@dodger0629 , if needed, the S500 does have IR input on the front display window. It also has a master/slave switch on the bottom along with a delay setting for power up. You can see the switch options in the manual here:

If you are happy with your solution, than no worries! Otherwise you could set the S500 as the master and control it’s IR directly.

Thanks Daniel for the tip! Didn’t realize even S500 can accept the IR on its own. Now I set the DD as “link” as well so it will be on 24/7 and I can control the S500 via the IR dongle, it’s PERFECT!
