Looking around, at shows, at friend’s, on the internet etc, I realise that I must have a very simple ‘high-ish end’ system compared to many others: since I have decided that thanks to today’s technological advances streaming was really all I needed to enjoy my music the way I like (my first MSB DAC, The Discrete, was the first DAC responsible for that, since for the first time digital sound equalled my pretty good vinyl rig sound quality) all I have now is a four box system (three actually, because one of the boxes on the rack is my MSB Premier headphone amp), that is a pair of Bayz Courante speakers (admittedly a very good pair at that, I love them), a Reference DAC, an S202 power amp and an old and long discontinued Pink Faun 2.16 streamer (their first ever model). Add to that a few selected but not overly expensive accessories (a good pair of speaker cables, a few decent power cables, two cool XLRs and one “top” USB cable, plus a SR power cell) and that’s all there is.
Yet, I really like the sound of my system 90% of the times, and despite visiting many shows and listening to far more expensive systems, I never really found one that made me think damn there is still a lot that I am missing to “get there”.
With the Reference DAC (even without the DD) I find that I have reached a truly excellent and very satisfying sound quality level now - definitely for my room and pretty much so for my ears too.
So, you may wonder, why 90% of the times?
Well, I did have the pleasure to spend a week or so with a Cascade in my system last year, and that was something I still cannot forget lol. But since I fell in love with the Reference (after the Discrete and Premier), that DAC never ever let me down and elevated the status of my mood when listening to music ‘to be (very) happy’ with what I have
