Sentinel Mute Analog input 2

I have my phono stage output connected to Sentinel analog input 2. Sentinel controls the volume.

When I mute the Sentinel and the record is still spinning, there is still output from the Sentinel. It is at a very low level and the level is not affected by the level setting.

Shouldn’t mute completely cut of the output of Sentinel? It did on Cascade.

I do have a different phono stage now, the VAC Statement, which, as luck would have it, replaced my previous phono stages at the same time I switched to Sentinel.

I know some of the gear I’ve owned did this too, where the mute was not zero DB, but like -50db. Maybe that’s what they are doing here??

That could be the case, but I did not have this issue with Cascade. But, again :grinning_face: the preamp part of Sentinel is, I think, different from that of Cascade.

Hey Dan, Just did the same test on my Cascade and I do not get a complete mute. Could still hear music playing from listening position. I have had this also happen on other amplifiers.

Thanks for testing that. I guess I didn’t notice it on my Cascade because I wasn’t looking for it :grinning_face:

So this looks like non-problem now.

This is all by design! Not to worry. With an MSB amplifier, it will likely be 3-4 dB louder on the Sentinel DAC than when you had the Cascade DAC. We could disconnect completely, but when using analog inputs that may have a DC offset, reengaging the output can cause a loud pop. This is the best and safest experience for most of the time.

Correct and it is a good practice to use :slight_smile:
