Room Zero

In our showroom we refer to the various rooms as Room 4, Room 3, Room 2… etc. The rooms get bigger and the systems get better as the numbers descend.

This is Room Zero.

This is where we get to know every new model before we add it to our portfolio.

This is where planets collide.

This is where visitors’ minds get modified

… Thanks in no small part because of the magic the Cascade DAC and S500 has unleashed.

Since the ISL link between the Digital Director and the DAC allows for separated placement, we are able to keep most of the digital pieces off to the side and analogue stages away from it. This made a very positive difference in the setup.

Since this is a reference and evaluation setup it often changes, but at the moment at least it consists of the listed components.

Aurender W20SE

Calypso Transport & Silent base

MSB Cascade DAC

D’Agostino Momentum HD Pre-amp

Wilson ActiveX crossover

MSB S500 > Wilson Audio ALEXX V

D’Agostino Momentum Stereo > Wilson Audio Subsonic Subs

Transparent Opus & XL PowerIsolators

Transparent Opus and XL Interconnects, Power Cords and Speaker Cables

The thought of what a Sentinel DAC would do here is actually quite terrifying!

Very nice system and room. I can’t even imagine what the Wilson Audio Subsonic Subs do for the sound. I have the Alexx V in my system and the bass always continues to astonish me. Can’t fathom the impact of Subsonic? Do you run the Cascade through the Momentum Pre-amp or directly into the MSB 500’s?

Thank you skinzy. I completely agree about the Alexx V’s bass - they are astonishing on their own and we still run them alone quite often. But…the effect of the Subsonics is hard to explain. Transformational is the word that comes to mind.

The Cascade direct with the impedance matched setting on the S500 sounds incredibly good and we do sometimes run it like that, but normally it runs through the pre. (one of the plusses being that it has dual outputs so it makes it easier to run the subs)

Great presentation, and kudos to being one of the very few to separate the Digital Director from the analog components like this. I had to do a double take. Superb setup.
