Question about power conditioners

Does anyone have experience with various power conditioners/regenerators and the Cascade? I currently have a Shunyata Denali v2. But also have a PS Audio P20, not in use. I am thinking about a Stromtank as well. In many of the big show setups, I see MSB DACs connected to the PS Audio, is this coincidence or something proven? I would need to get different poles for the rack to the P20 which has kept me putting it in the mix. Thoughts?

Hi Matt,

I have my audio equipment (Cascade, 2x M500s, Magico M6s, and other equipment for a parallel surround system all plugged into two Audioquest Niagara 7000s, each on a dedicated, 20 amp run. Note that the M500s are plugged into the Niagara outlets designed for amps, the rest are in the Niagara equipment outlets.

This made a noticeable audio improvement in my system, to me and a couple of my (skeptical) audiophile friends who were very familiar with the sound of my system prior to the addition of the Niagaras.

My audiophile friends have since added power conditioning to their systems and gotten an improvement too.

@matthewk I will second what @Dan said, I tried the a couple other brands and did not like them at all, then I tried the AQ Niagra 3000, 5000, 7000 and would not recommend the 3000, if you are only running the amps of them you can use the 5000 or 7000 but if you plan to also connect the Cascade then the 7000 is the clear winner.

Hi Dan, quick question.

Im currently settling on the m205 monoblocks with the select 2 with DD based on my existing budget. How did u biamp ur m500 To Your speakers? I assume u removed the bridge and connected each block to each speaker for both low and highs?

Thank you

Hi Sam,

My speakers are Magico M6s, there is no way to bi-amp them, i.e. drive the mid/highs and bass off different amplifiers. Each speaker has only one set of terminals.

However, the M500s had two sets of binding posts. The 2 red posts are bound together inside the amp, as are the black ones. This means your could use two sets of speaker cables to connect an amp to a speaker.

For a speaker with two sets of binding posts, i.e. that supports driving the high/mids separately from the lows, you could remove the jumpers on the speaker posts, but you would still be driving the high/mids and lows with the same amp.

Some would say that removing the jumpers on the speaker will improve the sound, even if the same amp is driving both sets of binding posts. I don’t know if that is true or not. My guess is that it would have little effect. But could just try that out and let your ears decide which is better.

In my case I use one cable per speaker and keep the speaker cable length short as I can, about 2 meters. in my setup.

@Dan is correct, the M205 has two sets of binding posts. You can run two speaker cable sets between the amplifier and speaker for setup.

Thank you Dan and Daniel,
If i let the speaker do the crossover - i leave the bridge intact and use one binding post for neg and the other post for positive then?
Apologies for the multiple questions.
Thank you

What your asking sounds correct. That being said, it may be safer to have the speaker dealer look over the setup before you run the system. I would hate to see something get setup incorrectly.
