This looks like an interesting prospect. I don’t see any evidence it is a real product just yet, so we will keep our fingers crossed it has good implementation. Perhaps if someone gets ahold of one we will check it out. It is simply a software update to add if the data is decoded for the I2S output.
@QuadDiffuser this is a Shan Ling products and it will be available this April 2025:
Further information here:
From the same cinese company, with another from factor matching a specific line of products, there is also a SACD player with an HDMI I2S output:
It costs less, and in case of use just as a transport, it could be interesting I guess.
The hardware looks quite similar between the two.
wonder how it compares to the Jays Audio CDT3-MK3
You can’t compare the two, since Jays Audio is “only” a CD transport, without any chance to read the SACD layer on the disc(s).
For buuilt quality, as fas as I know, the CD>T3-MK3 is the pinnacle of the CD transport on the market up today.
I understand that , let’s put the SACD aside
CD vs CD ? I’m using a MCD12000 SACD/CD now I’m very happy with
Ok, but are you using your McIntosh as player (so with its ESS Sabre inside), or just as transport hooked via SPdif/Toslink towards an external DAC ?
Because in the second case, there isn’t anything to discuss, since the Jays Audio will act exactly as your McIntosh, so you can save money just use your configuration.
In the first case, for me and based how I see this hobby/pleasure, if youu are “very happy” according to your words, there isn’t nothing to discuss, also in this case.
Use your MCD12000 and enjoy music, and if you want, invest the money you saved for not changing anything for buy phisycal discs (SACD and CD) that could sound better than the streaming version of the same content.
I never stated I wanted to replace my player it was just a general question. I already owned the Jays 2 yrs ago .
Ah ok,. my apologies.
I didn’t understand that this was just a chitchat.
Not a problem of course.
Yay! This will be what I’ll be buying for listening to the SACD layer of my hybrid discs via MSB’s DAC:
Good choice!
The current model called PST sounds wonderful with my MSB DAC via HDMI/I2S module.
Not only SACDs, as supposed, also red books.
The new PMG series should outperform the previous models, as per Paul McGowan during AXPONA launch.
Sadly the new transport will be realized just in 300 exemplars, due to Marantz internal drive shortage…
Hi Luca,
Where have you read about the limited production information of just 300 pieces? Thanks!
Paul said that during Axpona launch and you can find other members comments on PS Audio forum.
I’ve looked in the PS Audio forum, but no mention of this yet.
Axpona 2025 thread and if memory serves me well YouTube video.
wonder, of course, about a shootout between PSA’s PGM revolution vs Cascade
SACD drives are becoming a rare beast. I am glad PS Audio is producing as many transports as they can in the meantime.
I wrote to PS Audio about whether they would make some of the about 300 units of the SACD transport available for Europe and Chris Harden answered :
« Yes we are very excited on the PMG release. Ship dates TBD but we will certainly have units in Europe! Keep an eye out. »
The Innuos ZENith NextGen streamer requires I order an output module. I am choosing between the I2S and the USB module. Both modules clock the data. The I2S module claims to bypass the USB conversion stages. Reading the previous posts, I understand the ProUSB connection provides a better interface because it provides better isolation (Fiber Optic vs Galvanic).
-
I am unclear if connecting to the Innuos USB Phoenix module enables another stage of re-clocking, from the MSB ProUSB module, before it reaching the DAC clocking?
-
Does the better isolating interface of the MSB proUSB module make up for the noise generated from the Innuous USB conversion stages or does using the MSB I2S module provide better sound because the Innuos USB conversion stages are skipped?
The Pro USB would be our recommended input for this setup. The Pro USB will reclock and sync the data with the MSB clock before sending it to the DAC as well. That, along with the isolation, will yield the best results. If you have a Digital Director, this will become less important and open up options for choosing other inputs. Only then would you be able to pick and choose between the subtle differences/preferences. Which DAC are you using and what is your setup?
