not related to a day of listening but to the AQ power cable, this weekend I had the opportunity to do a bunch of AB testing, the original hope was to see if I could possibly save some $ down the line but the objective was to see the impact of power cables in the chain.
Test Tracks:
Original Config: AQ NRG Edison 20A wall plug - > Dragon HC Variable → Niagra 5000 → Dragon HC Variable → Rel No. 31
First variation: replaced input to 5000 with a stock cable. Everyones comment was muddy base, sloppy and loose but I am still confused how pre-filter cables have so much impact.
Second variation replaced input to 5000 with a Thunderbird, much improved , no longer sloppy but not crisp either, sort of ok at best
Third variation replaced input to 5000 with a Firebird , almost the same as the dragon except for the attack, but the difference was very very subtle.
Fourth variation: put back the dragon input to 5000 and replaced the input to the REL with a stock cable, we just stopped taking notes and said NO. We didn’t feel we were listening to the same sub, the REL’s are one of the best subs I have ever listened to and they were at best acceptable
5th variation replaced input to REL with a Thunderbird, ahh back to having a good sub but not world class, definitely underperforming
6th variation replaced input to the REL with a Firebird , back to a excellent sub, fast and musical but not able to keep up with the sealed Forzas
Back to the original config and smiles all around, a world class sub able to compliment the Forza’s
