I have been trying hard to do 32bit playback with my Reference DAC via ProUSB. I’ve failed but I have managed to get it working through the Renderer Input module.
The media are 16bit, 44K, AIFF files ripped from redbook CDs upsampled to 24bit / 32bit, 705K. I am using JRiver, Audirana and Roon.
Is there a technical limitation for 32bit playback via ProUSB?
Would the new I2S input module be able to playback at 32bit?
The idea behind PGGB is to do music files upsampling, “at your own time” offline instead of doing it “on the fly” as with most upsampled software players. This way, more elaborate computation can be used to work out the values for the newly generated sample points. Out of curiosity, I signed up for the 30-days trial. I did hear differences with the upsampled files but I was not certain whether it 's worth the several hundreds of dollars for the license. I believed I was more worried about the workload it takes to upsample my entire library.
Fast forward into 2024 and just the other week, I rediscovered these old PGGB files in my library storage. Now playing back these old PGGB files, I found vast improvements, better control and more definition. Also found that 32bit sounds better than 24bits and the higher the sample rate, the more control sonically.
This afternoon, I just got DSD512 to work on my DAC via ProUSB but I need to inject the USB signal directly from the PC.
