Electrical grounding

Hi - do folks electrically ground their MSB DACs - does it make a difference in the SQ?

I’m curious what people have found as well. Please let us know. From what I’ve heard, it’s not universal as to what is best. What I’ve heard is that what works in one system doesn’t work in the next.

Before reading this, I thought MSB DACs are already grounded via the power supply units…

They are, but you have the choice to make your own grounding path by lifting the grounding bar at the back of the unit. You can learn more about this feature here. As Jonathan mentioned, Its not always an improvement to the system.

I ground mine to the AQ 7000, prior to that I did not. I can’t notice any difference either way.

I have my Cascade ground lug connected to the ground lug on the back of my S500. If anything it may have lowered the background noise a bit. Hard to say though the pair was already dead quiet. Figured it couldn’t hurt.

I put a ground wire between my M500s and my Cascade and it reduced the leakage current on the XLR signal cables by a small amount, but there wasn’t any difference in the sound that I could hear.

So here is the dilemma. The Cascade paired with MSB amplifiers are already in the blacker than black range for background noise.

Grounding other gear was audible but thanks to the MSB team for making some of the best gear I have had the pleasure to listen to! All I can say is you guys are great to the point where most of the needed refinements on other equipment aren’t even noticeable improvements on your stuff.

Hats off and thank you.
