Hi there,

Recently, my Discrete DAC / Network Renderer seem not working stably. I am not sure which one of them is faulty (or perhaps both of them are). If my memory serves, the problems started happening about 2 weeks ago, before I did firmware update; but the problems persist after updating to latest firmware of my DAC and DD.

Here are the problems:

1. The display problem I mentioned in another thread ([https://forum.msbtechnology.com/t/display-mode-problem/1442](https://forum.msbtechnology.com/t/display-mode-problem/1442))

2. Stuttering at the beginning of music tracks (music stored in NAS; MinimServer; BubbleUPnP as control point). This usually happens within the initial 10 seconds of a music track. It happens less during sequential track transitions (i.e. when a playlist is running); but it happens frequently if I am picking music tracks on the fly.

3. Playback freeze up occasionally. Sometimes, music just abruptly stop at the middle of a track. The control point (in my case, that’s BubbleUPnP on tablet) seems lost connection with the renderer; cannot resume playing without restarting BubbleUPnP. I previously thought that was just BubbleUPnP’s problem… but after reading about UPnP, I’ve learnt that even if the control point go offline suddenly, the renderer will not stop playing before finishing the current music track. So I guess it is still possible that something’s wrong with the renderer / DAC.

My apologies for long and clumsy descriptions; please let me know if anything unclear. Thanks!

Hi Raphael,

I’m also using UPnP with MinimServer, although with JPLAY as the control point, and since the Renderer V2 firmware 3.1.5 update I’ve noticed the same kind of stuttering at the beginning of some tracks, particularly when selecting tracks or albums on the fly.

UPnP interoperability can be quite tricky, and MSB has been doing a major overhaul of the Renderer V2 firmware over the past few months. From my experience, there has been a huge amount of progress : several long-standing UPnP issues I had previously reported have now been fixed, and overall the Renderer is working much better than before.

So I wouldn’t necessarily assume there is something wrong with your DAC or Renderer at this stage. We may simply be seeing a few remaining UPnP-related glitches while the new firmware is being refined.

Given how much has already improved recently, I’m quite confident these remaining issues can be corrected.

It may also be worth reporting the issue directly to MSB at [hello@msbtechnology.com](mailto:hello@msbtechnology.com), which is the contact address provided in the Renderer’s web interface. The more reproducible UPnP cases they receive — ideally with firmware version, server/control-point setup and exact conditions — the easier it should be for them to track down the remaining issues.

You can also download a diagnostic package directly from the Renderer’s web interface and attach it to your message to MSB. It includes system information, logs and the current device status, which may help them investigate the issue more efficiently.

Hope this helps.

Antoine
